Materiality, process and transformation define my practice. I explore themes of authenticity and perception by transforming pedestrian materials that normally perform utilitarian tasks into abstract objects. In this process, I create a thought-provoking contrast between objects and their outward appearances. My experimentation with inflatable plastic—the industrial terminology for bubble wrap—is an integral part of this exploration. Normally used to protect valuable objects, here I subvert this quality and instead the bubble wrap sculptures point both outward with their glitzy exoskeletons and inward, making viewers aware of their vacuous insides, which contain nothing but air.
